Posted by arm On April - 17 - 2009

It’s nothing official at the moment, but word on the street is that Apple might have chosen a series of OLED displays for its next round of handsets. Such a move would certainly be in the best interests of battery life, as the iPhone isn’t noted for its battery capabilities. Considering the amount of new features that were announced in the iPhone 3.0 firmware update, it would be fairly practical to have a capacitive OLED display in the future. What do you think

Motorola Milestone review

Posted by arm On April - 8 - 2009

We like:

Powerful Android 2.0 operating system; Exchange email support; multi-touch functionality in some apps; stunning touchscreen; handy Qwerty keyboard; decent camera; Android App Market is full of good, free apps; great connectivity
We don’t like:

Gold trim and angular looks won’t be to everyone’s taste; slider is stiff; fewer social-networking features than its competitors; no Google Maps Navigation; MotoNav sat-nav feature is poor; very flat keyboard; below-average call quality
Also known as:

Motorola Droid
CNET UK judgement:

Android is still geeky around the edges, but the Motorola Milestone doesn’t disappoint, thanks to its gorgeous screen, useful keyboard, heaps of apps and a handful of new features in the latest version of the little green robot
Full review:

The first phone to run Android 2.0, the Motorola Milestone feels like an evolution of the T-Mobile G1. It’s got a funny chin and handy slide-out Qwerty keyboard, but, with built-in Microsoft Exchange support, a stunning capacitive touchscreen and a smorgasbord of smart-phone features, the geeky gadget feels much more polished.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness review

Posted by arm On April - 5 - 2009

We like:

Attractive; unique; simple; long battery life; clear calls; easy-to-switch SIM cards
We don’t like:

Few features; screen hard to read; useless Web browser; no camera; expensive; lack of privacy thanks to see-through screen
CNET UK judgement:

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Pureness is purely for fashionistas looking for the simplest possible phone. The transparent screen looks cool, but isn’t easy to read and won’t protect your privacy, so the Pureness is strictly for show-offs only
Full review:

The Sony Ericsson has trimmed the fat with its Xperia Pureness and made a phone that doesn’t have room for any extras, just a sleek-looking, simple handset that’s great for a night out. You could get a lot more phone for the money, but if you want something that stands out it’s a uniquely stylish option.

Nokia N97 mini review

Posted by arm On April - 2 - 2009

Reviewed by: Flora Graham

Reviewed on: 19 November 2009

Tags: Nokia, Nokia N97 mini, FM radio, music player, LED
We like:

Looks sleeker than the N97; handy Qwerty keyboard; customisable home screen; widgets with live updates; angled screen
We don’t like:

Bland user interface isn’t particularly easy to use; unimpressive display; resistive touchscreen; widgets can be buggy; no multi-touch capability
CNET UK judgement:

We like the Nokia N97 mini’s slimmed-down shape, and it’s not lost much functionality through going on a diet. We’re not fans of the resistive, dark touchscreen or the uninspiring user interface, but there’s no shortage of fantastic features packed into this small handset. Still, it remains a workhorse, rather than a magical, flying Pegasus of wonder
Full review:

As you might have guessed from its name, the Nokia N97 mini is a smaller version of the N97. Although Nokia’s cut a few features to reduce the handset’s size, we think it’s a more appealing smart phone. The mini is available for free on a £30-per-month, two-year contract. That’s £5 per month less than the cheapest deal for the N97. You can also buy the mini for around £400 SIM-free, while the N97 costs around £430 SIM-free. Continue Reading…
