Both Apple [AAPL] and Microsoft [MSFT] proclaimed press events yesterday. The Apple event is to show window their novel iPhone OS 4 that looks to be hurling soon. The Microsoft event is a little more stillness in that we are not sure as of yet what they will be launching.
Rumours have indicated that the Microsoft Courier might be introduced at this event although it is believed that MS will be unveiling the new MS smartphone platform called “Pink”.
As well as unveiling Pink it is believed MS will also introduce a couple of innovative smartphones called “Pure” and “Turtle” which are believed to have been planned by the same company who planned the Sidekick phones.
From what we have detected in leaks is that the OS will be akin to Windows Phone 7 and the Zune OS, but still based around the Windows CE operating system.
Social networking is expected to be the main trait of the mobile phones which will be aimed at the younger end of the age range.
We’ll have the full details of what is proclaimed on April 12. We do hope it is messenger, but from what we have detected this is not a messenger event, so we are now expecting the smartphones listed above to be hurled.

LG Cookie Plus GS500

Posted by arm On April - 6 - 2010

LG Cookie KP500 didn’t take long to become the fastest selling model of the company and with more than 10mln units sold in less than 13 months following its market release, nobody was really surprised to see the manufacturer introduce its successor, the LG Cookie Plus GS500. The new device comes with slightly refreshed overall design and a few differences in terms of specifications alongside of its famous predecessor. However, all of them are major, because the new generation mobile phone features 3G functionality, 3.5mm headphone jack, microUSB port and revitalized interface.

Design: The LG Cookie Plus GS500 is made from rubberized plastic that is pleasing to touch and exactly the same its ancestor is made from.  The overall size of the device has been increased, but its design is more likeable and all told, the GS500 is definitely more appealing than the first Cookie.

Samsung Reveals Upcoming Bada OS Handset Road Map

Posted by arm On April - 6 - 2010

Were you thinking that the Samsung Wave would be the only Bada-powered phone the Korea-based company would produce? Of course not. Because it’s Samsung, and they never just leave well enough alone. Especially not when they know they’ve got a good thing in their hand. While many may think the Bada mobile Operating System is just another OS in the huge pile of others, we’re sure that Samsung sees it a bit differently, and we’re glad to finally see some images of the devices that are heading down the track with the new OS.

The images you’re looking at are coming off a slide, in which Samsung was utilizing to show where they see the price points for their devices, along with showing off a few more mobile phones in the process. Unfortunately though, we don’t have any names, specifications, or anything of the sort, but we can safely assume that any of the devices launching with the Bada OS are probably going to ship with a Super AMOLED display. Or, you know, at least an AMOLED one. There’s no mention of release dates either, but Samsung did mention that we should be happy waiting until Autumn. We don’t necessarily know about that, but we probably don’t have a choice. After all, if we can get any of these handsets with the full QWERTY keyboard and Super AMOLED display.

Sales of the iPhone, the iconic mobile device made by Apple, have broken the half-million mark in the four months since its South Korean market debut, KT said Thursday. KT, which sells the iPhone here, said South Korea was one of the seven countries in the world where sales of the smartphone topped 500,000 in less than a year. The telecom operator, also the nation’s second-largest mobile carrier, said it activates 4,000 new iPhones every day. The iPhone went on sale in South Korea on Nov. 28, 2009, becoming one of the last major Asian countries to get the Apple’s flagship product, following releases in Japan, India, Australia and China.Last year, the South Korean government granted the Cupertino, California-based Apple permission to use so-called location based services, such as maps, in the iPhone.Four months after entering the domestic market, which is dominated by South Korean mobile phone giants Samsung and LG, Apple became the first foreign phone maker with a top selling smartphone.

The Omnia2, a smartphone model by Samsung Electronics Co., surpassed 600,000 sales mark on March 30. A KT official said the iPhone’s introduction helped spur the use of wireless data, giving the wireless services industry a boost and bringing down prices of using wireless data. The iPhone has also created new mobile software and content markets in South Korea that are estimated at 470 billion won, as well as a market worth some 230 billion won for iPhone-related devices and accessories.

A New Android Phone – gPhone

Posted by arm On April - 3 - 2010

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a big one for you. After more than a year of hard work and tough negotiations we are pleased to introduce our first very own handset. Enter the full-touch Android-running gPhone!

We would like to thank our partners from Samsung who were kind enough to supply the gPhone 4″ Super AMOLED touchscreen display of WVGA resolution and Qualcomm, who agreed to make our device the first to pack their brand new 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU.

The rest of the specs of the gPhone include Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, 3G with HSDPA support and 512 MB of RAM.

The 8 megapixel backlit image sensor of the camera will allow better low-light performance than any handset currently on the market and will be able to record 720p video at 30fps.

We are hoping this smartphone will be available in time for the holiday season in black and brown color versions. Each of them will have steel bodies. We are currently negotiating with several major European carriers about offering the gPhone through their networks and we’ll keep you posted once the deals are done.

Well the world was droning amongst the technology freaks when there was a presentment about the launch of iPhone, well we have the aforesaid buzz now. Nevertheless the marque is different. The parvenu phone which has an Android OS has made the entire world stand up and wait for its accomplishment. The HTC EVO 4G which is a HTC product and along with Sprint the mobile supplier has established a smart phone, which is shortly turning out to be a contraption freaks creativity come true. With its dimension of dual cameras, larger screen, higher memory than Google’s NI, high speed internet, good video quality and many other engrossing characteristic this one phone has caught everybody’s vision. The cell phone is none other than HTC EVO 4G a product of HTC and sprint.

The 1GHz Snapdragon processor really flexes its muscle in the EVO 4G. We pressed the product managers about a realistic battery life with 4G on, but all they could muster up for us was, “it’s good.” Bollocks. If you love HTC’s Sense UI, you’re really, really going to love this handset. The enhancements to Android’s UI are done with great detail and add minimal overhead to the phone’s resources (arguable, we guess). Widgets provide easy access to social media content, bookmarks, and other mobile resources. You can update your “status” on several social media sites using HTC’s social widget. The EVO is a “with Google” phone and supports Exchange, Gmail, POP, and IMAP email accounts — although you can only have one Exchange account configured to the phone. We prefer having support for multiple Exchange accounts, but for most users this won’t be the end of the world.

The appearance of HTC EVO 4G handset is that till date nobody knows when is it awaited to be launched and what is the cost anticipated to be, but the attribute of thehandset has already blown everybody’s mind away. It is already being scalper as an iPhone killer in many circles and it might just prove to be that if all the dimensions mentioned in thehandset are to be reasoned. The only content in terms of attributes of HT EVO 4g is that must be perturbation a lot of people is the memory capacity and the coverage area. Yes, the memory size is relatively less. Presently the internal memory is only up to 1 GB and the RAM is up to 512 GB, which if we look at it can be slumberous less in case if we are planning to install a lot of items. The other issue is of connectivity in HTC EVO 4G, though sprint is considered to be cheaper than quite a few mobilehandset services suppliers there details of coverage area is not yet know. In one case that comes in the open, when the HTC EVO 4G is launched many people will take a call on that.

Some other description accessible in a HTC EVO 4G are:-

  • Video streaming in HTC EVO 4G is possible because of high speed connection.
  • There is a built in retractable footrest in the HTC EVO 4G.
  • Availability of radio and blue tooth.
  • There is provision for support memory card. A memory of 8 GB is provided with, but however you can expand the whole memory to 32 GB.
  • Availability of Wi-Fi in HTC EVO 4G

Our biggest questions at this point are availability and pricing. Sprint is keeping mum, just stating a “Summer” availability, and interestingly clarified that not only is it not announcing device pricing, but it’s not announcing plan pricing yet either — sounds like a 4G-on-a-phone surcharge could be somewhere in our future.

High-end LG Aloha

Posted by arm On April - 3 - 2010

LG have a new high-end Android smartphone waiting in wings, codenamed the LG Aloha C710. LG have been a bit quiet with respect to Android, releasing low-end handsets such as the InTouch Max that although very capable, don’t add an awful lot more than you get with the default Android OS.All that may be about to change with the LG Aloha, though, as it’s rumured to be LG’s first high-end Android mobile phone. And high-end for LG means all manner of super-specced features!

According to the latest rumours, the LG Aloha will come with the following features:

  • Physical QWERTY keyboard
  • Large 800 x 480 touchscreen display
  • WiFi 801.11b/g/n
  • 65,000 colours

Annoyingly, all this givdes us is a few teasers. We need to know a bit more before we should start getting excited. Will it have a new user interface, for example? How big is the camera? What about video? High-end LG handsets normally have all manner of nifty features thrown in, and we need answers to these questions!

Fortunately we shouldn’t have to wait too long. Although the LG Aloha hasn’t been announced yet, it should be available at Q4 of 2010.

We’ll keep you posted when anything new appears. In the meantime, it’s great news both that LG are working on a high-end Android phone, and that it’ll feature a physical QWERTY keyboard.

Sharp IS01 SmartBook (More Than a SmartPhone)

Posted by arm On April - 2 - 2010

Sure, you’re probably looking at this thing and shaking your head. Did you hit the right website? Be sure, you’re at the right place, and we promise there’s a reason this Mobile Internet Device (MID) is making an appearance here on our pages. While it is a MID, it’s also got the power to make phone calls, and that, right there, is the reason we’ve decided to give it some face time. It’s destined for Japan’s shores, so unfortunately we’re not going to get to get our hands on it, but that’s not stopping us from wishing.

After Softbank announced the HTC Desire and DoCoMo began pushing its very first Android smartphone (Xperia X10), Japan had big hopes for AU’s press event today. An EVO perhaps, or maybe something more from this once proud home of the original superphones? Engadget Japanese let out a collective meh in response to a 5-inch IS01 handheld from Sharp running Android 1.6 on a Snapdragon processor and measuring 83 × 149 × 17.9mm and 227g. While it looks like the classic Japanese eDictionary, the IS01 is meant to be used as a general purpose MID with a 5-row QWERTY, Sharp-built “New Mobile ASV” multi-touch capacitive display pushing a 960 x 480 pixel resolution and a 5.27 megapixel auto focus camera on back with a 0.43 megapixel jobbie up front for video calls. Rounding out the specs are 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth2.1 + EDR, microSD slot, 1Seg mobile TVtuner, IrDA, 4GB of internal storage, and Qualcomm 3G CDMA data. Look for it to ship in October while a developer friendly version (JN-DK01) should be available in May.

After the unveiling of the superphone last week, DoCoMo which has recently unveiled a set of shiny android devices last summer, will soon have a partner to unveil a new android handset on its sleeves, for the first time. Correction for the word ‘android phone’, it’ll be marketed not as a mobile phone, handset or a smartphone, but as a smartbook – Does this ring a bell? – It’ll be called as Sharp IS01 which is lined up with the the IS02, formerly known as the Toshiba K01 during its debut last MWC. Together with KDDI au (Japan’s #2 mobile carrier) they will offer the IS01 unit on an undisclosed date (but sources suggest it’ll be on June this year)

Unfortunately for users, their version isn’t going to show up on shelves until this October. The developer’s version will start being sold in May, though, so maybe you’ll have a change of heart for your career decisions. You can check out more about the device at this page. We definitely think you should take a look at it, even if just to keep yourself dreaming of what you wish you could. Then again, if you’re in Japan and pick one of these up when the time comes, make sure to let us know what you think of it!

Nokia Ovi Store Gets Much-Needed Updates

Posted by arm On April - 1 - 2010

As promised back in 2009, Nokia has revamped its Ovi Store, updating it with a fresh look and some new features. As Nokia puts it, the update should make “it even easier to use the Store on your desktop or handset”. Ovi Store now features a “mobile device selector”, which allows users to see what apps and games are available for their Nokia device, even when they’re not logged in. The rating system has been improved, and owners can rate apps only if they’ve downloaded them. Moreover, search has been enhanced, featuring “a cleaner list-based view of the content, making it easier to weed out the apps you want and those you don’t.”

According to the Ovi Blog, they had three goals for this update:

  • Make finding content easier.
  • Improve the quality of reviews.
  • Provide deeper information to make it easier for users to decide on a purchase.

As for the actual changes, the desktop version of the Ovi Store now features a “mobile device selector,” which allows users to filter the available content based on what will be compatible with their handsets. The search page has also been improved, now showing a cleaner, list-based view of the results.

The review system has been bumped up to display a 5-star rating, allowing the app ratings to be just a tad more meaningful than it has been in the past. Plus, they now show each reviewer’s mobile phone model and the date they posted a review, helping you create a clearer picture of both the freshness and relevance of each. Lastly, users who can’t decide on whether certain apps are what they’re looking for should be able to appreciate the longer descriptions, which give out more details relevant to the user experience. While these latest changes aren’t anything major, they will definitely foster a more positive experience for Nokia’s large user base. And we honestly do hope they have more to come. You can find the complete details and pictures from the Ovi Blog.
