Nokia and Samsung in Indian Mobile Market

Posted by arm On January - 5 - 2011

Since choice of handsets goes among Indian consumers, Finnish mobile giant Nokia continues to find fans among consumers. According to a data released by market research firm GfK Nielsen, Nokia cornered a mobile store share of 49.2% in terms of revenue during the January-November 2010. Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung grabbed the second spot with a market share of 20.5% according to the GfK Nielsen data.

It is believed that high end gadgets launched by Nokia and Samsung have enhanced revenues of the firms apart from increasing their respective brand appeals. While Nokia’s touch screen phone N8 has helped it to generate high revenues, Samsung created ripples in the handset market by introducing high end smartphones such as Galaxy S and Wave. Dual SIM mobile devices of Samsung also helped it to notch high sales.

As per GfK Nielsen, market share of LG Electronics and Micromax in terms of revenues was pegged at 5.3% and 5% respectively. Nearly 155.9 million gadgets were sold out during 2010 with the subscriber base growing by nearly 20 million buyers every month. It is believed that with growing demand for mobile phones in tier II and tier III cities, sale of mobile devices in the country will be further bolstered.
