The mobile phone market across the globe is witnessing a tremendous surge with several manufacturers rolling out different kind of handsets. In today’s mobile market it is pretty easy to find handset of your choice ranging from high-end smartphones to feature phones. Amidst such intense competition, price plays a important factor while deciding sales of a particular device. According to a survey conducted by KPO firm Evalueserve, prices of handsets in the global market are likely to come down by nearly 70% by 2015. According to the firm’s estimate, handsets can become cheaper by $ 100. The study says that the prices of handsets can come down with growing number of subscribers from lower-middle income of developing economies of countries like India. The study says that with demand increasing in these markets, mobile phone companies will be targeting them. The study also says that the mobile phones will not be cheap, but will also host several features to lure consumers towards them. It is to be noted that Indian phone manufacturers like Micromax, Lava, Spice, Zen etc are coming out with handsets which are not only cheap but are also loaded with high-end features. Over the years average selling point (ASP) of various cell phone manufacturers have witnessed a fall. ASP of Nokia phones fell by almost 40% between 2005 and 2009. ASP of Samsung’s phone fell by nearly 33% between 2005 and 2009.
