The finest example of this saying came from Apple whose iPhone 5 prototype is said to be lost in a bar. Reports of the loss of an iPhone prototype, the second instance in a year and a half, has created suspicion that the entire event could be a publicity stunt by Apple to market the device. In April 2010, Apple lost an iPhone 4 prototype that went missing in a bar just before its release. But Apple was lucky to get it back after it had been sold by a finder to tech blog Gizmodo for $5000. But this time Apple is having a tough time getting back its iPhone 5, which was reportedly sold on Craiglist for $200.

Theu say that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 will support access to both CDMA and GSM networks, allowing it to operate in most countries around the world. According to the official reports from the Sources, an unnamed app developer supposedly grabbed the information from registration logs; which illustrate 2 different mobile network codes (MNC) / mobile country codes (MCC). Further the source say that these (MNC) / (MCC) codes, which are supposed to have been entered by testers a single device using Apple’s upcoming mobile operating system iOS 5, are unique mobile network identifiers belonging to AT&T and Verizon carriers. At present Apple supply to both companies, however the devices are not designed to work on each other’s networks; Verizon’s works on the CDMA standard, at the same time AT&T’s iPhone 4 functions on a GSM network, the leading global wireless technology and the standard in Europe.

Despite the fact that the iPhone 5 has been long rumored to be a CDMA/GSM world phone, Verizon’s iPhone all the time had this capacity, though it’s not activated. Teardowns of the device unveiled that it features the Qualcomm MDM6600 chip; the similar chip that is used in the Droid Pro world phone. On the other hand, the Sources which grabbed the info concluded that a dual-mode phone would suggest that the iPhone 5 would not support LTE. Yet, according to other sources which are familiar with Apple notes that Apple’s most recent developer builds for iOS 5 include a snippet of code that refers to LTE, prompting conjecture that Apple may perhaps be testing 4G internally. The long-anticipated next edition of Apple’s smartphone is predictable to be released in October.

Three years after its launch the JCB phone is back and tougher than ever, with a higher resistance to water and dust and improved shock resistance, while the design is still modelled on the company’s range of diggers. The TP851 is the top of a new range of four JCB phones. They’re all built to last, but this is the only one capable of surviving the rough handling of T’ s examiners…

The details

1 KEYBOARD – Each key has survived over 300,000 presses. It’s an extremely robust keypad

2 IP67 – It’s rated IP67 – that’s completely dust-proof and waterproof to ametre down

3 SCREEN – There’s a touchscreen, so you have the choice of using it with a stylus – the one supplied has a biro on the other end – or the buttons

4 PRESSURE DROP – The screen has survived 0.5N of pressure so don’t worry about sitting on it

5 HUMIDITY – It can survive being kept at 90 degrees relative humidity for 48 hours and can operate at between 75 and -30 degrees Celsius

6 COMMUNICATIONS – As well as a mobile with Dual SIM – so you can have two numbers on the same handset – it’s also an eight-channel, two-way radio, so you can call another TP851 for free

7 CAMERA – This is the fi rst JCB phone with a camera. It’s only a two-megapixel one, so results aren’t fantastic, but it’s better than nowt

8 GUARANTEE – If you do somehow manage to damage the TP851, it comes with a three-year warranty, so you’re covered

9 DROPTEST – It has been dropped from a height of 50cm over 1,000 times and from two metres on all four corners, so sturdiness is assured

10 CHARGER – It comes with a wind-up charger, so you can get juiced up even if you’re miles froma power socket

Xperia Play is the name of the upcoming new PlayStation phone from mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson. This slider phone which is still unannounced will apparently run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will have a 1 GHz processor . In other specifications this elegant smartphone will have a Bravia – quality display which is more or less 3.7 inches and has a 512 MB of RAM. The camera quality of the gadget is still unspecified and the most anticipating feature is how well the games will perform in it.

This concept phone is definitely real and it looks like this PlayStation handset will be introduced in a few weeks at the Mobile World Congress show. The hardware looks nice sufficient but there are still many questions about the software and how the gaming feature will work. The actual test of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play which is powered by Android 2.3 lies in the expectations of performance in 3D gaming environment which is the core feature of this device. The main competition with Windows phones will depend on how well the Xperia Play syncs with PlayStation consoles as the former does pretty well with Xbox systems.

The Lamborghini Spyder smartphone is set to retail for around £1100 for the basic model, although there are costlier models which bring the price point even further out of reach to the general public.

Though it is very expensive Lamborghini smartphone is a little light on high end specs. The 2.2 inch display is a real minnow compared to the four inch plus devices regularly showcased by mobile providers such as HTC and Samsung. The smartphone’s three megapixel camera and four gigs of onboard storage mean that the specs are roughly on par with a mid range Nokia agdget.

There is an option to have crocodile skin stitched onto the rear of the phone, which is definitely a step up from the plastic and metal usually found on various mobile devices. The display case in which the concept phone is shipped is another work of boutique opulence – it is finished in steel and has pneumatic arms to hold the lid.

The launch of Constellation Quest was held at the Lancaster House and the phone from Vertu is equipped with exquisite features along with latest business tools.

Notably, it took the company three years to produce the smartphone and after much effort, the company got everything right for the gadjet. Meanwhile, Hutch Hutchison, head of concept creation and design of Vertu said that Constellation Quest is an amalgam of looks and practicality. Mr Hutchison also added that Vertu will further improve the quality of its phone by undertaking constant R&D activities.

A precise notion for a BlackBerry phone called Empathy has been cooked up by designer Daniel Yoon, focusing on sharing our mood with friends. It’s a smidgen of a throwback to the early Live Journal and MySpace days, which were all about updating mood statuses, but there are some appealing twists on old ideas here. The concept embraces a high-tech mood ring which shares biometrics data with social networks. Not only can contacts see what kind of mood you’re in based information like blood pressure, body temperature, and heart rate, but message notifications on the Empathy would colour the entire facade of the handset philosophical of the mood of their sender. That same gadget surface colour idea would allocate the handset to go clear when idle and intense when active.

The social networking aspect reminds me of the BlackBerry Enterprise’s Server free/busy lookup– except as opposed to seeing if your contacts obtainable for a meeting, you can see if they’re in the right mood for a call. Some Android phones already do this by showing social network status updates on incoming calls from contacts, but the idea of that data being gathered submissively is very latest. There’s also a latest navigation mechanism based on a radial wheel surrounding contacts, and pinch-zooming to finding bundled people within certain subgroups, which you can see in action in the video below. A neat idea, so long as a more straightforward border was also obtainable. The handset looks like it has a screen on both sides (one with a stud-style keyboard), which would likely be a massive battery hog, but hey, we can skip logic for a cool idea.

A diminutive preventive care will help individuals stay healthier even when everyone around appears to be sick. Violight has rolled out the protective UV cell phone sanitizer which precisely discards around 99.9 percent of germs and bacteria on several handsets.

Violight’s germicidal UV light technology lowers the amount of strep, E. coli, salmonella, listeria, and H1N1 virus germs and bacteria in about three minutes. Powered with a battery, the portable gadget puts forth an comprehensible interface.

“Our goal is to help make people’s lives healthier with every product we develop,” mentioned Joel Pinsky, co-developer and founder of Violight. “Consumers can now utilize the same UV technology used to clean their toothbrushes for their cell phones and other small electronics devices they use every day.”

Customers need to place the handset into the cradle and close the lid in order to activate. The solution alerts clients about the sanitizing process with a handy blue-violet indicator. Subsequently, the twin UV bulbs spontaneously turn off once the process is complete and the gadget is ready to be used.

The offering can be picked up for $49.99 from Brookstone, Hammacher Schlemmer and the official website.

It seems like Facebook isn’t the only company with ambitious mobile phone ideas…

Mozilla, developer of the popular Firefox web browser, has put together an incredibly compelling concept video for an Open Web handset dubbed ‘Seabird’.

It looks every part the ‘concept phone’ – all glass, curves and detachable bits like a space-age shaver – but it hides some pretty phenomenal dream features including an edgeless touchscreen, a Bluetooth dongle that doubles as a free-roaming remote, as well as the ability to dock and become a fully-fledged browsing device thanks to dual-Pico projectors displaying a 900 x 600 screen and spacious virtual keyboard onto surfaces.

Naturally, Firefox looks pretty snazzy on it too, with the ability to play HTML 5, Flash video and the like with aplomb.

Lofty flight of fancy? Yes. Awesome? Also, yes.

The brainchild of community member Billy May as part of a Mozilla Labs Concept Series last year, it seems destined to remain vapourware but is a great indication of how much further mobiles can go than bigger displays and more megapixels…

We’ve been following BELLPERRE for a couple of years now, starting off with their original phone in 2008. The 2010 cell phone is still called just “BELLPERRE”, but it now comes with a much more contemporary feature set.

This type of mobile phone is about exclusivity, style, engineering and craftsmanship. But too often we see beautiful handsets that underneath are incredibly basic.. and if you’ve just spent thousands on a phone, then you don’t want it to be bested by a bargain basement Nokia.

So although we liked the original BELLPERRE a lot, we would be the first to agree that it was a bit too basic as a phone. BELLPERRE’s 2010 model addresses this by making sure that the handset’s internals are much improved.

We will look at the insides in a moment, but the main selling point about a BELLPERRE handset is what’s on the outside. These are handmade, bespoke handsets that feature a variety of metal and leather finishes. There are 125 different leather options, and you can have your BELLPERRE with a steel case or a rose or yellow gold finish if you like. You can add gemstones and diamonds to the finished design, allowing you to create whatever tasteful or over-the-top design you wish.

BELLPERRE seem to be reluctant to give out pricing, but their old model started at just €1200 for the basic specification, up to €21,000 for a solid gold model with diamonds. We should imagine that a couple of thousand euro should get you something quite nice, and surprisingly BELLPERRE do call themselves “affordable”, which is true when you consider the overpriced madness of Vertu and Mobiado, and that the new Versace Unique comes in at over €5000.

The phone itself is a slim device, measuring 111 x 45 x 11.2mm and weighing 135 grams. This model of BELLPERRE is a tri-band 3.5G handset with maximum download speeds of up to 10 Mbps. It comes with GPS navigation, a multimedia player, FM radio and stereo Bluetooth. On the back is a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash that can record VGA resolution video at up to 30 frames per second. The display is a 2.2″ 240 x 320 pixel panel covered by a sapphire crystal to prevent scratching. Software includes a web browser and the ability to synchronise with Microsoft Outlook.

What we have here is a beautifully crafted device, if you were to buy one you would very rarely meet another owner.. and if you did, then the handset’s unique design would still leave you both feeling special. Underneath is a phone that can do most of the things that you will want of a mobile device. And as for the price.. well, it’s likely to be expensive but not insanely so.
