Nokia Forays Into Dual SIM Mobile Market

Posted by arm On June - 16 - 2011

In a move which may revive the declining fortunes of Nokia, the Finnish cell phone manufacturer has forayed into the already crowded dual-SIM market. The challenge Nokia faces here is not only from established players in the market but also from dual SIM cell phones imported from China. During the launch of the dual-SIM handsets, Prakash Katama Director, Chennai Factory of Nokia India said that though the company is a late-entrant in the dual-SIM market yet it expects to grab the top slot with its affordable pricing.

It is to be noted that of late there has been a tremendous demand for dual-SIM handsets in the country with users looking forward to keep one number for personal use while the other one is kept for professional usage. At the same time keeping dual-SIM phones allows users to use one for data and service while the other is for voice and SMS. Both the dual-SIM handsets launched by Nokia are equipped with services called Nokia Life Tools which gives consumers information on a wide range of topics such as agriculture, education, entertainment, healthcare etc. A recent report regarding dual SIM handsets was quoted by Mr Katama which said that dual-SIM phones made up nearly 40% of the mobile market.

The E7 boasts impressive hardware

Posted by arm On May - 4 - 2011

Like the N97 mini before it, it sports a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, but unlike that bulkier device, the Nokia E7 implements the high-end slim design of the N8. Its keyboard is easy on the fingers and we found usability better than on the N97 mini (the HTC Desire Z still holds the crown for best QWERTY keyboard though). This E7 is enveloped in an aluminium shell which makes it feel rock solid and very modern, emulating the chic feel of a unibody MacBook Pro.

The phone boasts Nokia’s largest touch-enabled display, coming in at a very decent 4″, but unfortunately sports the same resolution (360 x 640 pixels) as the N8 and C7′s smaller 3.5″ screens. Many Nokia phones have excellent cameras and the E7 is no exception. The 8 megapixel camera takes very good stills and can record high-definition (720p, HD-Ready) video that looks equally impressive. We really liked the fact that the E7 (like the N8) features HDMI out and comes with the cable in the box, allowing you to connect to your HDTV to effortlessly display all your HD-Ready videos and high-resolution photos on a bigger screen.

The mobile phone market in India is on a rise. Cell phone penetration has increased like anything and of late dual SIM handsets are becoming extremely popular. When Mobile Number Portability (MNP) was introduced in the country, then a few home-based manufacturers whose dual SIM phones became popular in the country had opposed it, casting apprehensions that MNP might result in loss of business for them. But nothing of that sort has happened and the popularity of dual-SIM phones has not taken a blow despite rolling out of MNP. Industry experts feel that with tariffs becoming stable among cell phone operators and handset manufacturers MNP has not resulted in drop in sales of dual SIM handsets. Intex, one of India’s prominent domestic handset manufacturers generate around 40% of its revenues through sales of dual-SIM phones.

The dual-SIM handset market is witnessing a steady rise of around 2-3% every month with such phones contributing around 22% of the total sales of the handsets. It is to be noted that Chinese handset makers tasted a significant success with dual-SIM handsets which prompted Indian handset manufacturer to enter the dual-SIM market. Experts believe that one of the major factors which is driving the growth of dual-SIM handsets in the country is the need for two phone numbers. A businessman may want to keep two numbers, one for official purpose while the other one is for personal use. Rising popularity of the dual-SIM phones have even prom opted biggies like Nokia and Samsung to foray here. Dual-SIM phones also help users to tackle problems related to network. It may happen that during travelling, network of one operator may be weak while other is strong. It is to be noted that Samsung has come up with several dual-SIM phones and plans to introduce several more in coming days. With the launch of 3G services in the country, the demand for dual-SIM phones is expected to further rise.

Motorola Droid X Knock-off Mobile Phone

Posted by arm On December - 8 - 2010

Yet unnamed Motorola Droid X’s replica phone….

Let’s start with the design and outer of the phone. Everything has been designed to match the Droid X  — even down to the Verizon logo,on  both sides of the phone. Also retained in the cloned model is the Droid X’s slim figure. As for its presentation, speed was reported to be decent and not bad at all. Instead of using Android OS, the phone uses Windows Mobile 6.5. A strange choice of operating system, but nonetheless it is still very exploitable.

The smartphone features a 4.3-inches capacitive touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution. And obviously, it wouldn’t be a complete knock-off phone without the usual dual SIM support. Other specs contain GPS (SRIF Star II chip), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, proximity and gravity sensor, light sensor, 8-megapixel camera with face recognition and dual LED design.
