The 99p mobile costs less than a cup of coffee

Hear is a cell phone that costs cheaper than a cup of coffee. Carphone Warehouse is introducing the final throwaway accessory – the 99p mobile device. The retail series claims the OT-209, which is produced by French firm Alcatel, is the cheapest pay-as-you-go handset ever to be sold in the UK.

Customers, who don’t use an expensive contract, will be linked to the Virgin network. The phone is aimed at first time customers and people phased by technology. It has just a handful features and is uncomplicated to use. The phone comes with FM radio.

‘I guess it reflects just how competitive the UK mobile market has become between carriers and manufacturers. Mobile phones are such an important part of people’s lives and so many are manufactured that they have become very cheap to make.’

ICE Mobile targets for Alcatel 40K mobile phones

The ICE Mobile Network Systems Limited is eyeing on the upper crust of the ultra low cost(ULC) segment and has tied up with TCT Mobile Limited in order to co brand and market the Alcatel ICE3 mobile phones and is also planning to launch the handset.

As for now the company will be offering single model but by November ICE Mobile plans to launch 5 more handsets in the low price. The Managing Director of ICE Mobile Network Systems Limited, Mohinder Singh Malik, stated that they wanted to launch quality products in the mobile segment and thus they have tied up with Alcatel who are known all over the globe for their quality equipment in the telecom market. Alcatel ICE3 OT 808 mobile phone comes equipped with features like QWERTY keyboard, email POP3, IMAP4, access to social networking sites, instant messaging and others.

Malik also stated that the company aims to sell around 35,000 to 40,000 handsets in the state of Gujarat by December 2010.

Alcatel One Touch XTRA Hits the UK Via Orange
