We get our grubby mitts on Apple’s amazing new iPad

Posted by arm On March - 22 - 2011

As Steve Jobs announced the iPad 2 at the Yerba Buena Centre For Arts in San Francisco, the event was being beamed around the world to the BBC TV Centre, where we managed to get a hands-on test of the new device. The most striking and noticeable new Feature, is the new Smart Cover. While a cover may not sound like the most obvious thing to get excited about, we were impressed by how quick and easy it was to attach and detach using magnets (no more fiddling). Another cool Feature is that the cover switches on the iPad when you open it, and switches it off when you close it. It’s also great to hold an iPad in a range of colours, and the white model with a Smart Cover looks much more stylish than the black original.

We were also struck by how much lighter and thinner the new iPad 2 is. Nobody would accuse the original of being a Fatty, but our side-by-side comparison photo shows just how much thinner the new iPad is. It also has the tapered edge from the iPod touch which gives it the same visual effect of looking smaller than it is. Visually it appears smaller than the iPad, although it has the same large screen and bezel. Weighing in at 601 g (down From 680g) it’s also much more comfortable to hold. There is a larger speaker grille on the rear, which we imagine provides louder and better sound quality than the original iPad, although the environment we tested it in was too loud For an accurate test. While the iPad was no slouch, the faster processor and graphics card ensure that everything runs extremely quickly, and we were impressed by the speed with which Photo Booth, iMovie and Garage Band all responded to Finger presses. We can’t wait to see what game developers can achieve with the dual-core processor and nine times Faster graphic capabilities.

Appie has unveiled the iPad 2-just over a year after it unveiled the original iPad.  The iPad 2 features an all-new design along with new features including two built-in video cameras and a new six-axis gyroscope. Launched at an event in San Francisco on March 2, the iPad2 boasts a 1 GHz dual-core Apple A5 processor, which should providea boost over the 1GHz single-core Apple A4 in the First iPad. Apple says the A5 is two times faster than the previous processor, and graphics performance is nine times faster. “The graphics on this thing are wonderful,” said Apple CEO Steve Jobs, who made a surprise appearance at the launch event despite being on sick leave. The A5 chip also has a similar low-power consumption rating as the A4 that powered the first-generation iPad, so the battery life is similar at about 10 hours, according to Apple.

Posted by arm On February - 28 - 2011

Apple will show off a preview version of iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch at the iPad 2 media event, on March 2nd, at  the famous Yerba Buena Center for Arts in San Francisco. Before it come we cannot say anything about its features, a new revamped notification system is under work, might be introduced with iOS 5. Apple may release iOS 5 with the next-gen iPhone5 in this summer. But in my opinion it is very much expected that these will hit this summer!

With the passage of time Apple have introduced powerful Dual and Quad-Core processors in their devices like we have seen in the latest iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch versions, but to run those devices consistently for a long period of time more power is required, Apple realizes this need and is nowadays looking for a solution. Although iPhone 4 have more battery timing rather than its predecessor but still it’s owners want more for the next day. Maybe the new iPhone 5 will come with enhanced battery time but we’ll have to wait and see. But for now do you need more battery for browsing, gaming and for calling?

The coming mini iPad will have 6 inch displey

Posted by arm On February - 22 - 2011

Ah the rumours of probably a mini iPhone simply isn’t adequate for the tech world, now we have the possibility of a mini iPad also, which actually may hit the mobile space sometime later this year if all pans out to be spot on. Apple is looking at pushing out an even smaller Apple iPad at 5.7 inches. Even though the derivation of the information doesn’t offer up any other details on this 6-inch Apple iPad they do actually claim to have had said information confirmed by 2 independent sources, unnamed of course. The new 6-inch iOS device could see release sometime in the middle of this year. Individually I can’t see Apple shoving out a slighter edition of their iPad that soon after the release of the Apple iPad 2, but stranger things have happened. Perhaps this new iPad if it materializes will be the Apple iPad 2.5, or even the Apple iPad 3 we’re heard rumour of in the past…

Posted by arm On December - 3 - 2010

Three has joined both T-Mobile and Orange in selling the iPad from today onwards, at the same prices as the two parts of Everything Everywhere – only with a 15GB Internet browsing limit, instead of the 2GB that Orange and T-Mobile allow.

Three’s data allowance is clearly much higher than Orange and T-Mobile’s, for the same price and on the same tariff cost, which can be used at any time where 1GB of the 2GB EverythingEverywhere web surfing bundle can only be used in off-peak hours.

iPad sales outpacing iPhone in initial year

Posted by arm On October - 8 - 2010

The iPad‘s early sales rate has surpassed that of the iPhone and the DVD player, making it a “runaway success of unprecedented proportion,” a Bernstein Research analyst supposed in a note to investors earlier this week.

With Apple selling 3 million iPads over the first 80 days and an estimated 4.5 million over the three months ending in September, Bernstein Research retail forecaster Colin McGranahan said that the tablet is destroying all previous records of consumer electronics adoption.

Distinctively, sales of the iPad have shot past the 1 million iPhone handsets sold during the smartphone’s first quarter and the under 6 million sold during the full year of the phone’s 2007 debut. The numbers quoted for the iPad and iPhone are all on a universal basis, though McGranahan told CNET the postulation from his end is that around 45 percent of iPad sales today are in the U.S.

Sales of Apple’s popular tablet have also greatly outpaced those of the DVD player, which had been the largest-selling non-phone electronic product with 350,000 units sold just in the United States in the first year, according to data from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Originally unveiled in Japan, DVD players hit the U.S. market in early 1997. The first DVD players were pricey, selling for close to $1,000, though the cost quickly dropped over the following years. It wasn’t until 2002 that DVD players were selling at around 4 million per quarter in the U.S., a number that’s about the same today, according to the CEA.

Based on McGranahan’s estimate of 4.5 million iPads sold over the past three months, which Fortune says is actually a below-average forecast among the analysts who follow Apple, consensus is that Apple has so far sold around 8.25 million tablets. Apple is due to release its earnings report for its fiscal fourth quarter October 18.
