Transparent iPhone 3G Case

Some people love transparent cases, others loathe them, which one are you? Showing off the naked insides of your iPhone 3G will probably guarantee you a few curious (if not envious) stares from people nearby. If you’re the type that must be different, then this will probably be something to keep an eye out for.

iPhone 2.2 Firmware Slows 3G And Drains Batt

There is no official word on this just yet, but it appears that many users are complaining on online forums that the iPhone 2.2 firmware update that was just released has affected the 3G speeds on their iPhones by quite a bit. Some users have even taken the time to do a side-by-side comparison with other iPhones that have not been updated, and have confirmed that the speeds are vastly different. To make matters worse, there are also a few complaints that battery life has dropped significantly, with one user reporting that his battery life dropped from 36 hours to about 9 hours. Have you just updated to the 2.2 firmware? Drop us a comment to let us know how it’s going.

SoftBank Boosted By iPhone Sales

Many people were wondering how well Apple’s iPhone would do in Japan, since it’s a totally different market from that in the US, but since SoftBank agreed to be Apple’s iPhone 3G carrier partner, the carrier has seen their bottom line move upwards. Even in the current global economic situation the strong sales of the iPhone 3G helped Softbank increase its net profits to $225 million and saw the biggest net subscriber growth in 17 consecutive months. Whichever way you look at it, the iPhone 3G definitely has been beneficial to SoftBank.

iPhone With Your Holiday

A lot of people love the iPhone, but sometimes, iPhone-mania can be taken a little too far. The Malibu Beach will allow you to do a variety of things with your iPod Touch or iPhone, which includes ordering room service, setting a “do not disturb” notice, shop, and more. If you don’t already own an iPhone or iPod Touch, the resort will even loan you one (though you’ll probably just spend your entire holiday playing with the iPhone if you didn’t own one before).

Intel Blames ARM For iPhone Problems

Intel Blames ARM For iPhone Problems

The iPhone may not be the most powerful mobile phone on the planet, but that certainly doesn’t mean that it lacks a punch. Whatever the reason behind it, it looks like Intel is picking a fight with ARM, as its VP of the mobility group, Shane Wall said “Any sort of application that requires any horse power at all and the iPhone struggles.” While he might have a point, unless Intel has some really cool processor that is suited for the iPhone, then maybe it shouldn’t go around saying bad things about others.

iPhone Build-in Apps Load Faster

iPhone Build-in Apps Load Fasterjpg

If you feel that the iPhone built-in applications such as Mail or Contacts always seem to load “instantly”, as opposed to third-party applications that take longer, you’re probably right. Apparently Apple is using a screenshot of the last known state of the application as a “splash screen” when the application next loads. Such a splash screen would effectively mask the loading time of the application, while giving users the illusion of the application loading instantly, genius, isn’t it?

Best Selling US Handset: iPhone 3G

Posted by arm On October - 8 - 2008

iphone-3g

NPD market research has released a report stating that the iPhone is the top mobile handset in the United States, holding a second place only behind the wildly popular Motorola RAZR of its time. The iPhone had captured 17% of smartphone sales, beating out rivals Research in Motion with the BlackBerry Pearl and Curve as well as Palm with the Centro smartphone.

Of those who purchased the latest iPhone model, nearly 30% are switchers from other carriers. Of that number, nearly half are defectors of Verizon Wireless, 24% from T-Mobile, and 19% from Sprint. The lower price point of the iPhone 3G as well as faster 3G network speeds were cited as major reasons for adoption of the mobile handset.

The success of the iPhone hasn’t come without problems. A rushed launch caused many crashes and issues that were only solved with the release of the 2.1 firmware. AT&T also has had capacity issues, with users reporting slower than advertised data speeds, dropped calls, and network outages. AT&T has admitted that it needed to rapidly build out network capacity post-launch of the iPhone 3G to accommodate the extra bandwidth that was being used by iPhone users.

Black and White Phone is a Bulkier iPhone

My first thought after seeing this handset was that I was checking out yet another iPhone clone, but one with thicker edges and a smaller screen. Nice to see the virtual keyboard separated from the actual screen, but we’re in the era of full QWERTY devices, so this might not appeal to the public too much.

Unlocked iPhone with 32 GB

Apple seems to have changed its stand on offering the iPhone 3G for exclusive carriers only. If info provided by Apple Insider is to be trusted, the iPhone users will no longer be bound by AT&T in USA, for Apple is soon going to make its babe contract-free and unlocked. There is further news that Apple might upgrade the iPhone to include 32GB storage space
