Nokia N79 and N85 blessed with firmware updates

Posted by arm On May - 17 - 2009

The Nokia N85 and Nokia N79 have both received significant firmware upgrades, to version 20.175. Version 20.175 fixes as always some major bugs but also adds some new functions. It adds turning controls (flip to silent for incoming calls and alarms) and Nokia’s email wizard, together with email notifications on the active idle screen (homescreen). The email wizard (’Set up e-mail’, also known as Gimlet) is now becoming a standard part of Nokia’s S60 devices. Nokia N97 mini review

Posted by arm On April - 2 - 2009

Reviewed by: Flora Graham

Reviewed on: 19 November 2009

Tags: Nokia, Nokia N97 mini, FM radio, music player, LED
We like:

Looks sleeker than the N97; handy Qwerty keyboard; customisable home screen; widgets with live updates; angled screen
We don’t like:

Bland user interface isn’t particularly easy to use; unimpressive display; resistive touchscreen; widgets can be buggy; no multi-touch capability
CNET UK judgement:

We like the Nokia N97 mini’s slimmed-down shape, and it’s not lost much functionality through going on a diet. We’re not fans of the resistive, dark touchscreen or the uninspiring user interface, but there’s no shortage of fantastic features packed into this small handset. Still, it remains a workhorse, rather than a magical, flying Pegasus of wonder
Full review:

As you might have guessed from its name, the Nokia N97 mini is a smaller version of the N97. Although Nokia’s cut a few features to reduce the handset’s size, we think it’s a more appealing smart phone. The mini is available for free on a £30-per-month, two-year contract. That’s £5 per month less than the cheapest deal for the N97. You can also buy the mini for around £400 SIM-free, while the N97 costs around £430 SIM-free. Continue Reading…

Nokia E71 in White from Rogers

Posted by arm On March - 26 - 2009

Fans of Nokia E71 who are on Rogers’ network will welcome the news that the carrier is now offering a white version of said phone. While dummy phones were slowly making their way to the stores, it’s good to know that the real deal is finally here. The white Nokia E71 will be going for $99.99 on a 3-year contract with a minimum $45 Voice and Data plan. If you want something shorter, the 2-year contract means the phone will cost you $374.99; 1-year contract will be $399.99; Month-to-month is $399.99 and $449.99 to buy the phone outright, which certainly doesn’t sound cheap.

Nokia E55 In Red Spotted

Posted by arm On February - 25 - 2009

Nokia E55 In Red Spotted

When Nokia E55 was announced, users were only offered the black or white color options, but if this latest leak is anything more than a good Photoshop job, then we’ll probably be seeing a red color version of the E55 sometime. The color used here helps the E55 join the group of phones such as Nokia’s E71, E75 and E63 which have similar color offerings. The device should be going for 265 Euros, though there isn’t any mention of whether it will be sold at the same time as the black and white versions.

Nokia 5800 Will Available On Feb 26?

Nokia 5800 Will Available On Feb 26

Folks eager to get Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will be happy to hear that the handset should be hitting retailers on February 26th, though we’ll probably need to wait a few more days before they start selling it. The little bad of bad news though, is that the selling price is set at $399, which is a tad higher than the initial $360 that was mentioned when the phone was announced. With the rumors of the N97 being delayed, you might want to consider the 5800 as an alternative.
