Posted by arm On February - 22 - 2011

Ah the rumours of probably a mini iPhone simply isn’t adequate for the tech world, now we have the possibility of a mini iPad also, which actually may hit the mobile space sometime later this year if all pans out to be spot on. Apple is looking at pushing out an even smaller Apple iPad at 5.7 inches. Even though the derivation of the information doesn’t offer up any other details on this 6-inch Apple iPad they do actually claim to have had said information confirmed by 2 independent sources, unnamed of course. The new 6-inch iOS device could see release sometime in the middle of this year. Individually I can’t see Apple shoving out a slighter edition of their iPad that soon after the release of the Apple iPad 2, but stranger things have happened. Perhaps this new iPad if it materializes will be the Apple iPad 2.5, or even the Apple iPad 3 we’re heard rumour of in the past…

This year’s award for the best GSM phone was won by Apple’s iPhone 4. This, at an event where Apple had practically no presence at all!  Talk about creating an impact! Sarcastically, HTC bagged the award for the best mobile handset maker. Looks like the judges were overwhelmed by HTC’s constancy in bringing not one, but a onslaught of great phones. This is unlike Apple which releases just one tremendous product a year.

The preeminent part about the iPhone 4 winning the award is the fact that the handset is close to a year old already and had tough antagonism to fend off in the form of more modern, better alacrity and faster handsets. According to the judges, the iPhone won the awards for its “great screen, sharp design, fantastic materials, and phenomenal ecosystem for app developers. In a tight race, the iPhone 4 built on the success of its predecessors to set the pace for smart phones.” With the iPhone 5 rumored to arrive in the next few months, let’s wait and watch if Apple manages to up the ante further and bag the award at the 2012 MWC as well!

Posted by arm On February - 21 - 2011

Mobile handsets able to recognise their surroundings and make contact less payments will become gradually more common by next year, it’s been predicted. Handsets able to “recognise the user’s surroundings” and tell you there’s a shop nearby that you may like, will become increasingly common by 2012, Gartner has predicted in its round-up of the best “cutting-edge” technologies winging their way onto phones. By subsequently year more phones will also work as wireless credit cards, Gartner said. Nevertheless, it admitted that so-called “near field communication” technology won’t become widespread until 2015. Some of these technologies are currently only available on very expensive smartphones. But by 2012 people won’t have to spend as much on a new phone just to take advantage of the amazing technologies that will make their everyday lives simpler.

By 2012 a wider range of phones will support:

On the back of Microsoft’s latest partnership with Nokia, the company is aiming to double its global reach with Windows Phone 7 operating system. The software firm hopes to do this by the end of this year. How far the firm achieves this will depend in part on fixing problems currently occurring in particular countries, one notable example being Poland. The declaration was made at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer also proclaimed that the new partnership with Nokia is big news in the expansion of future editions of the Windows Phone 7 platform.

Future editions will include tweaks to the hardware to enable the handsets to make use of Internet Explorer 9 or at least the mobile version. Extra features will also comprise such things as access to Microsoft’s Skydrive and compatibility with the Xbox Kinect video games accessory. Another specification planned is an integration of Twitter with Windows Phone 7 ‘People Hub’. As an aside Steve Ballmer also said the multitasking option will also be improved. The latest update with this feature is expected at the beginning of March. Confidently, Microsoft won’t run into the same problems Google have had in trying to update Android.

Facebook phones HTC Salsa and HTC ChaCha with Sharing Button

Posted by arm On February - 19 - 2011

HTC just initiated the Salsa and ChaCha at Mobile World Congress 2011 and these Facebook phones will be coming to AT&T soon. The Salsa and ChaCha can be called Facebook phones because these Android-powered gadgets have a committed button for the social network. The idea is that each time you’re looking at something on your handset, you can hit this button and it will be shared on the world’s largest social network. For instance, the HTC Facebook handsets will be able to share photos with a single push of the button. If you’re trying to get into the Places check-in game but hate having to navigate through the apps, the HTC Facebook handsets will check you in if you just hit that button.

The Salsa and ChaCha are not superphones like the Atrix 4G but the HTC Facebook phones could be very, very trendy with punters of the social network. While the gadget names and products for a U.S. release haven’t been finalized, you can bet that the “Facebook phone” will be part of how these handsets are marketed. Picking up the ChaCha and Salsa also shows how AT&T has embraced Android. The company plans to have a strong portfolio of Android gadgets that will include the aforesaid Atrix 4G, the Infuse 4G, the Inspire 4G and multiple tablets. Obviously, the embracing of Android happens to correspond with the business losing uniqueness of the Apple iPhone. Verizon now sells the iPhone and the company said the Verizon iPhone was the fastest-selling phone in its history during the pre-order period.
