South Korea is home to Samsung, and Samsung is carrying a novel device to S.Korea. Samsung has launched a novel gadget in S.Korea which is known as the Samsung Galaxy K. As you can see the picture above, the handset is matching to Samsung Galaxy S, and the only dissimilarity between Galaxy S and Galaxy K is that the Galaxy K comes with Android 2.2, which means you can enjoy the Flash 10.1 on it. The smartphone comes with the same 3.7 inch AMOLED touchscreen and 1GHz Hummingbird processor. The phone also comes with 8 GB internal memory, WiFi, and Bluetooth. Samsung Galaxy K is going for 800,000 Won ($716) on South Korea KT. I don’t know what is the point of this gadget, because in few months Samsung Galaxy S will be upgraded to Android 2.2.

iPad sales outpacing iPhone in initial year

Posted by arm On October - 8 - 2010

The iPad‘s early sales rate has surpassed that of the iPhone and the DVD player, making it a “runaway success of unprecedented proportion,” a Bernstein Research analyst supposed in a note to investors earlier this week.

With Apple selling 3 million iPads over the first 80 days and an estimated 4.5 million over the three months ending in September, Bernstein Research retail forecaster Colin McGranahan said that the tablet is destroying all previous records of consumer electronics adoption.

Distinctively, sales of the iPad have shot past the 1 million iPhone handsets sold during the smartphone’s first quarter and the under 6 million sold during the full year of the phone’s 2007 debut. The numbers quoted for the iPad and iPhone are all on a universal basis, though McGranahan told CNET the postulation from his end is that around 45 percent of iPad sales today are in the U.S.

Sales of Apple’s popular tablet have also greatly outpaced those of the DVD player, which had been the largest-selling non-phone electronic product with 350,000 units sold just in the United States in the first year, according to data from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Originally unveiled in Japan, DVD players hit the U.S. market in early 1997. The first DVD players were pricey, selling for close to $1,000, though the cost quickly dropped over the following years. It wasn’t until 2002 that DVD players were selling at around 4 million per quarter in the U.S., a number that’s about the same today, according to the CEA.

Based on McGranahan’s estimate of 4.5 million iPads sold over the past three months, which Fortune says is actually a below-average forecast among the analysts who follow Apple, consensus is that Apple has so far sold around 8.25 million tablets. Apple is due to release its earnings report for its fiscal fourth quarter October 18.

Droid Pro brings BlackBerry feel to Android phones

Posted by arm On October - 7 - 2010

Verizon and Motorola have revealed the Droid Pro, a new Android handset that takes intend at BlackBerry. This corporate-focused gadjet melds the touchskreen edge of its beneficiary Droids with a comfortable keyboard and world-phone antennas.

The candy-bar phone sports a 3.1-inch screen and full QWERTY keyboard. For evaluation, the iPhone 4features a slightly larger 3.5-inch screen, while the Droid X boasts a hulking 4.3-incher. Neither have any physical keypad. The Droid 2 enjoys 3.7-inch touch screen and slide out keyboard, offering bigger keys than the Droid Pro but requires an extra motion every time you want to type on it.

Inside the Droid Pro, Motorola has packed all the firepower that Android fans have come to expect: 1GHz processor, 512MB of memory, 2GB hard drive plus an SD card slot. The 5-megapixel camera is on par with Apple and the Droid 2, but a little shy of the 8-megapixel Droid X. Of course, pixel count doesn’t mean much these days. We’ll need to wait for a hands-on before ranking any camera above another. The Droid Pro will also come with the latest Android 2.2 operating system.

Many reporters noticed the Droid Pro’s BlackBerry theme immediately.

Motorola FLIPSIDE

Posted by arm On October - 6 - 2010

The Motorola FLIPSIDE is the latest variation Motorola CLIQ / DEXT platform, and it forms another addition to the ever-growing range Android handsets offered by Motorola.

Sitting towards the lower end of Motorola’s smartphone range, the FLIPSIDE sports a 3.1″ 320 x 480 pixel display, a 3 megapixel camera, 3.5G support, WiFi, GPS and an FM radio, plus it comes with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Initially, the FLIPSIDE will be offered in an 850/1900 MHz 3G version for AT&T in the US only, but Motorola’s press statement indicates that perhaps there are broader plans, as they say that the “Motorola FLIPSIDE with MOTOBLUR™ will be available in select regions around the world beginning in Q4 2010.”

Annoyingly, Motorola are launching the FLIPSIDE with Android 2.1 rather than Android 2.2, although we suspect that most customers won’t really care. The FLIPSIDE does everything that every other Android phone does, plus it has access to Motorola’s MOTOBLUR service which offers useful social networking and synchronisation features.

The keyboard is a lot less cramped and altogether better thought out than the one found on the DEXT, and currently there are not a lot of QWERTY-equipped Android devices about. Inside is a very respectable 512MB of RAM and a 720MHz processor which should take care of most applications that you might want to run on it.

Motorola BRAVO

Posted by arm On October - 6 - 2010

Heading for AT&T in the US, the Motorola BRAVO is an Android smartphone sporting the same 3.7″ 480 x 854 pixel screen found in the DROID and Milestone series, but without a QWERTY keyboard and with a more rounded design. In terms of specifications, the BRAVO is very close to the Motorola DEFY, but without the rugged casing.

This is an Android 2.1 smartphone, which means that it’s a very capable device when it comes to multimedia and downloadable applications, but it isn’t running the somewhat more polished Android 2.2 operating system which is a shame, although perhaps it will be available as a later upgrade.

The BRAVO is a quad-band GSM phone with 850 / 1900 MHz 3G support, which pretty much means that it will only work on AT&T. The BRAVO supports 3.5G downloads and uploads of up to 7 Mbps and 2 Mbps respectively, and the phone also supports WiFi, GPS and comes with an FM radio.

The camera is a disappointing 3 megapixel unit, when really a decently specified Android device like this should have 5 megapixels in our opinion. We wouldn’t expect to see anything great when it comes to video capture either, but it will probably still be good enough for YouTube.

The large 1540 mAh battery is quoted as giving a maximum of 6.8 hours talktime and 10 days standby time, but Motorola haven’t said if those are 3G or 2G figures.

Inside is a useful 512MB of RAM to help applications run speedily. There’s an 800MHz TI OMAP 3610 processor inside which isn’t quite as fast as some of the competition, but it’s certainly better than that found in the original DROID and Milestone smartphones.

Multimedia support is pretty comprehensive, and the BRAVO comes with a 3.5mm audio socket and stereo Bluetooth. The standard Android software package is here, enhanced with MOTOBLUR which will look after all your social networking, backup data and even allow a remote wipe if the phone is lost.

Posted by arm On October - 4 - 2010

Apple may have had a opportunity on WVGA Android phones because of the retina displays that come standard on the iPhone 4 and the new iPod Touch, but you had to know that this benefit would ultimately be shattered.

Sharp has confirmed that their latest Android phone, the ISO3 will be accessible through the Japanese carrier KDDI in November. The smartphone which is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU includes a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 960×640 pixel resolution and a 9.6MP integrated camera with flash. This descendant to the popular HTC Desire Android smartphone, the 4.3-inch SLCD screen with a 480×800 screen resolution is larger than its predecessor’s 3.7-inch display. This means it will be a superior phone than the HTC Desire. HTC alleges the HTC Desire HD is crafted from a single block of aluminium, similar to the HTC Legend.

The HTC Desire HD is powered by a 1GHz ARM-based processor (8255 Snapdragon). It comes outfitted with an 8MP camera with dual-LED flash, 720p HD video recording and Dolby Mobile sound. It has 1.5 GB of internal memory, along with a micro-SD memory card slot that supports cards of up to 32GB in size.

Over and above these hardware features, the HTC Desire HD benefits from the latest 2.2 “Froyo” version of Google Android OS which adds full Flash support, built-in wireless tethering and the knack to store third party apps on your SD card, in addition to a choice of other improvements.

The HTC Desire HD is one of the first HTC smartphones to advantage from HTC’s new Sense software. Enhancements comprise a shorter boot up time (10 seconds), cached map data for quicker rendering of maps (along with a digital compass built into the map), and DLNA support for connection to compatible televisions. HTC has also launched HTCSense.com, a set of desktop-based services basically centred on backup and security. You can locate your handset on a map if it is stolen, remote lock or wipe the phone and archive contacts, text messages and call history.

There is a security function in this, in that people can effortlessly lock or locate a missing phone, forward calls and texts to another phone, send a message to the phone to arrange its return or even remotely wipe all personal data from it. And with HTCSense.com all the HTC Sense enhancements can be ported to a new phone handset – so long as it is an HTC model.

QWERTY candybars are the next Windows Phone 7

Posted by arm On September - 29 - 2010

From the very beginning, Microsoft have insisted on keeping complete control over both the form factors and inner specificationss of all mobile phones that wishes to run their upcoming OS, Windows Phone 7.

To this point, nevertheless, Microsoft have only given facts about one of the promised two “chassis” of their phones: the slate-style handsets that you’ve seen around. It should be noted that “Chassis 1″ are allowed to have slide-out QWERTY keyboards, but no known WinPho 7 phone presently has one.

So, what is “Chassis 2″, then? Well, in an interview inSilicon this week, Microsoft’s ISV developer evangelist, Paul Foster, may have spilled the beans with this little nugget:

WP7 devices will have one of two screen resolutions – either 800 x 480 for large touchscreen appliances with the potential for slide-out Qwerty keyboards, or 480 x 320 for ‘BlackBerry’ style cell phones that can incorporate a Qwerty on the front of the device. Microsoft expects the majority of WP7 devices to have the larger screen resolution at launch, with smaller resolution handsets coming later.
