Largest Gains in iPhone and Android-Based Phones

Posted by arm On May - 21 - 2010

According to the hottest sales figures released by market research firm Gartner, after sales demurs during 2009, the mobile device market has enhanced for the first quarter of 2010. Smartphones are replacing trait phones for many users and are blooming each quarter. The major gains were witnessed by iPhone and Android-based phones, as they both controlled to gain market share year-over-year.

In the first quarter, the mobile phone providers sold 314.7 million phones across the world, which showed a 16.9 percent raise from the first quarter of 2009. Most of the marketplace share was grabbed by Nokia, Samsung, and LG. The consequence of smartphones can be seen in the generally mobilegadjet  market.

Apple has protected the seventh position overall. Carolina Milanesi, research Vice President at Gartner supposed, “Growth came partly from new communication service providers in established markets, such as the UK, and stronger sales in new markets such as China and South Korea”.

Global smartphone sold 54.3 million units for a 48.7 percent year-over-year enhance.

Roberta Cozza, principal research analyst at Gartner shared that producers need to securely mingle hardware, punter interface, and cloud and social networking services, so as to vie in such a ruthless antagonism, if they truly want to attract the customers. Cozza further added, “Just adding a QWERTY keyboard will not make a device fit the communication habits of today’s various consumer segments”.

Yuhua X2 smartphone comes with dual OS boot up

Posted by arm On May - 17 - 2010

The Yuhua X2 mobile device  is a smartphone that offers dual OS capability, letting you toss between Linux 2.6 as well as the Android operating systems. Of course this concept phone‘s hardware specifications are nothing much to shout about with 256MB ROM and 128MB RAM, which makes us wonder just how fast (or rather, slow) the performance would be like considering the complex and demanding nature of operating systems of today. Apart from that, you get a 3″ WQVGA touchscreen display at 260k colors, although the resolution of 240 x 400 pixels isn’t going to be a deal maker for anybody. Apart from that, you get a  DVB-T mobile TV support, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, GPS navigation capability and Wi-Fi connectivity . A 1,200 mAh battery doesn’t sound like much these days for a smartphone, as a 1,900 mAh battery with push email turned on all day long can barely last more than 24 hours. No gess on pricing still.

Garmin Asus Nuvifone G60

Posted by arm On May - 15 - 2010

The first GPS-oriented smartphone promised by Garmin is delayed again. After Q3 2008 and Q1 2009, we are now promised to see the Garmin-Asus Nuvifone G60 in the third quarter this year. The Nuvifone G60 packs a huge 3.55-inch touchscreen, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, but on top of all that – Garmin promise full-pack navigation suite with optimized touch-based interface. Unfortunately, the G60 doesn’t run a popular smartphone OS, but a proprietary Linux-based one. Samsung i5801 Galaxy 3

Posted by arm On May - 13 - 2010

The upcoming Samsung i5801 mobile device, which is rumoured to possibly be the Samsung Galaxy 3 has somehow made its way into the mitts of Howard Chui who has given the smartphones some hands-on love and recorded the process on video.

We have recently come across a new Samsung phone which is currently under development, this smartphone  is marked the i5800/i5801 and could perhaps be the Samsung Galaxy 3.

It is hard to say how far away this cell phone is, its hardware specifications are pretty impressive, also what is pretty impressive is that it appears to run Android 2.1 Eclair.

Full specifications are not yet known, however we can pretty much guarantee that it will feature a microSD memory card slot, offer WiFi and 3G connectivity and feature a 3.5mm headset jack, rumors are also suggesting that the display will be an AMOLED HVGA touchscreen panel, however this is currently unconfirmed.

As we hear more about this smartphone we will keep you posted

Verizon Google Android Tablet

Posted by arm On May - 13 - 2010

Google is working with Verizon to launch a Google tablet, according to the Wall Street Journal. News site Bloomberg confirms, and also says the device will be based on Google’s Android operating system. We already have an idea what a Chrome OS tablet might look like (see video above), and as TechCrunch points out, it’s reasonable to think some of the same ideas could make their way to an Android-based Google Tablet. Google consumers eager to jump to a tablet world who aren’t so keen on the iPad should be excited to see how this pans out.

That rumored Android tablet form Google has been recently confirmed by Verizon’s CEO Lowell McAdam, who said the largest North America carrier is already working with Google to bring the tablet to its network. More exactly, Verizon’s CEO declared to The Wall Street Journal that the company is “looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience.” He didn’t disclose further details, like the features, launch date, or the price of the upcoming tablet. Anyway, all this makes perfect sense: AT&T has the iPhone and the iPad, while Verizon gets high-end Android smartphones (like the HTC Incredible) and Android tablets. Lowell McAdam agreed that “Verizon has been handicapped by its CDMA network technology” and that’s why it has some catching up to do when it comes to non-phone devices (like tablets and Amazon’s Kindle – which is available through AT&T).Apple has already proved that a tablet can be quite successful (it already sold 1 million iPads), so both Google and Verizon are probably confident that their tablet won’t be a flop.

Shanshui P72: Not an iPhone but runs Windows XP

Posted by arm On May - 12 - 2010

What we are looking at here is not an iPhone, but a Chinese cellular phone known as the Shanshui P72. Believe it or not, it runs on Windows XP.

A true iPhone KIRF running Windows XP may still be the stuff of dreams — crazy, fevered dreams — but it looks like we now have the next best thing: the iPhone-ish Shanshui P72. Boasting a 7-inch WVGA screen, this MID-sized device packs a 1.2GHz VIA C7-M processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, WiFi and 3G connectivity, built-in GPS, and no less than three USB ports, which will let you attach a keyboard and mouse for an authentic Windows XP experience. Sadly, there’s no indication of pricing or availability, but you can check it out in action in the video after the break, and get an extensive look at the device at the source link below
