Galaxy Tab 4G Android tablet for LTE Verizon

Posted by arm On January - 10 - 2011

Samsung and Verizon Wireless proclaimed a 4G version of its Galaxy Tab Android tablet for Verizon’s LTE network that also enhances the clock rate to 1.2GHz and cranks up the camera to five megapixels. Verizon then pre-proclaimed a 4.3-inch “Samsung 4G LTE” Android smartphone and tipped a 4G LTE version of Novatel Wireless’ MiFi hotspot. The goods are aimed at Verizon’s new LTE network, which is claimed to shuttle data 10 times as quick as its current 3G speeds. 4G products have received top billing here at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show.

The Galaxy Tab motorized by Verizon’s 4G LTE network will comprise the same seven-inch TFT display with 1024 x 600 WSVGA resolution, and be motorized by the same Android 2.2 OS. However, while the current 3G Tab offers a three-megapixel back camera, the 4G LTE Tab will sport a five-megapixel rear-facing camera to go with the existing front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera for video chat.

There was a time when the race was on to make the smallest handsets probable and then manufacturers went off Atkins and they all blew up into inovate  smartphones. LG is swinging back the other way with their newest and thinnest: the Optimus Black. While it’s no Motorola Razor, Optimus Black has shown up at CES at only 9.2mm thick — which makes it the world’s thinnest handset — having just eeked out the iPhone’s 9.3mm. She also tips the scales at only 109g, which is feather-light for this category (by comparison the iPhone is 137g). LG hasn’t sacrificed what’s significant to consumers to hit these benchmarks as it boasts a 4-inch NOVA screen which makes it easy to view in straight sunlight.

It will have a front-facing camera built-in too for those who love the video chat, alongside a 5 megapixel rear camera, and will also be the first smartphone with Wi-Fi Direct. Other than that LG is pretty shy on the details so we don’t know what kind of engine is powering this scrawny small thing, but keep your eyes peeled as further details should emerge during Q1. Apparently coming out in the first half of 2011 Optimus Black is something to look forward to but for some unknown reason it will be launched with Android 2.2 (Froyo) instead of being sent direct to souk with 2.3 (Gingerbread). So now that LG has set the new benchmark for “thin” we have an emotion the other smartphones at CES will be skipping the Bellagio’s all-you-can-eat buffet, at least for a few meals.

It’s pretty much the characteristic middle-of-the-road Android phone, only with DLNA certification so it’ll be useful for streaming media. Here it is. There’s no sense of scale in this photo, so it’s hard to tell precisely how petite it is. It’ll come in an assortment of colours. One of which is pink. Another of which is green. We won’t be getting up at 5.30am to queue for one on launch day, but it’s fairly sweet all the same.

Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) now in Google Nexus S

Posted by arm On January - 5 - 2011

It’s the handset that you have never seen. Following Google’s seriously acclaimed but commercially stillbornNexus One, CEO Eric Schmidt guiltily announced that there would be no sequel. Yet a few short months later the first tantalising glimpses of an all-new Nexus mobile phone began to ship, proving that Google hasn’t quite given up on the thought of creating its own ‘pure’ mobile experience just yet – and for that we should be tremendously thankful.

And the word ‘pure’ summarises the Nexus S quite aptly. Not just in corporeal terms, but in regards to what’s running under the bonnet: like its predecessor, the Nexus S is rocking an entirely unmolested version of the Android OS. In this case, it’s the freshly-baked Gingerbread – codenamed as Android 2.3 – and this handset is the first (and currently only) place to get it. In the picture below you can see the accessories intended for Google Nexus S Smartphones.

Samsung’s Galaxy S reaching 10 mln in global sales

Posted by arm On December - 25 - 2010

A few months ago, the mobile phone  industry responded with some cynicism when Samsung whispered it anticipated to sell some 10 million Galaxy S smartphones by the end of December. Nevertheless, new figures from Samsung seem to specify the company’s forecasts were appealing close to the mark: Samsung preclaimed earlier this week that it has sold some 9.3 million Galaxy S handsets worldwide, and expected to hit to 10 million mark by the end of 2010.

The petition of the Galaxy S smartphones is based in part on their 1 GHz Samsung Hummingbird processors and 4-inch AMOLED displays. Nevertheless, part of the phone’s sales success can be attributed in part to the rising fortunes of Google’s Android platform, over and above Samsung’s product strategy. pretty than being a singular gadget in all markets (like the iPhone 4), the Galaxy S is essentially a line of smartphones, with minor variations between them on different carriers. In the United States, Galaxy S cell phones launched nearly concurrently on all chief carriers—with one model (the Sprint Epic 4G) perhaps representing the most significant variation on the Galaxy S design, with 4G service, front-facing camera, and a slide-out QWERTY keypad.

1.5 Million Windows Phone 7 devices Sold by Microsof

Posted by arm On December - 22 - 2010

The early numbers are in for Microsoft’s product latest cell phone operating system Windows Phone 7: 1.5 million gadjets sold to date. Nonetheless, that number entails some explaining. Microsoft on Tuesday morning published a ersatz interview with Achim Berg, vice president of business and marketing for Windows phones, who says Windows Phone 7 is growing fast.

The “sales” number is a bit tricky: “Another is phone manufacturer sales – phones being bought and stocked by mobile operators and retailers on their way to customers,” Berg thought. “We are pleased that phone manufacturers sold over 1.5 million phones in the first six weeks, which helps build customer momentum and retail presence.”

To be clear, that means Microsoft has sold 1.5 million handsets to mobile operators and retailers to put on their shelves, not 1.5 million phones activated by punters. Then again, I’d be surprised if 1.5 million Windows Phone 7 phones were activated already: Microsoft is ingoing a market already dominated by Google and Apple. Google claims it’s activating 300,000 Android phones a day, and Apple proclaims 270,000 iPhones are activated each day. Microsoft has a lot of catching up to do before it can start boasting parallel numbers.

Nonetheless, Berg’s statements commonly give a humble overview on a fresh, new start. Berg adds that after just six weeks, Microsoft has recruited 18,000 developers, and there are 4,000 Windows Phone 7 apps accessible in its app store. 1.5 million “sales” isn’t the sort of sales we’d usually care about, but it shows that the software giant has a solid foundation of partners to help Windows Phone 7 potentially gain a foothold in the smartphone market in the coming years.

Skype Update on Samsung Galaxy S

Posted by arm On December - 15 - 2010

Skype has emerge with the updated version of its mobile app for the Android devices. They have released the newest edition with two foremost updates and the first one  is that now you can use Skype on the Samsung Galaxy S running with the Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS. The second one will facilitate you to install the app on the SD card once you are using the Froyo. The updated version will allow people to make voice calls  and send instant messages to other Skype punters. It will make international mobile  calls very cheap by using SkypeOut credit and also helps in merging the users’ Skype and cellphone  contact lists.

The updated version of Skype is now available for free download from the Android market. Once you are able to save the application on the card it frees up several MB of space in your device. Skype is said to use more disk space once the customer start using it on the phone. So the latest feature is undeniably going to help those consumers who demand more space in their handset. Although Skype proclaims the fresh version to free almost 15MB of space for most punters, it may be a bit disappointing factor for many as moving apps to the SD card does not mean that the whole app gets moved to the SD card. It is termed as unacceptable because every MB counts as most of the Android gadjets come with limited space for installing applications.

Tablets prove to be convergence drivers

Posted by arm On December - 15 - 2010

Mobile devices with appreciably superior computing power are proving to be the long-awaited driver of the convergence of user, computer and communications services, according to a latest report from iSuppli. The research and technology corporation believes apparatus for instance the Apple iPad and the Galaxy Tab will have “massive implications” for the technology world, “spurring competition not only among varying types of products—but among entire industries,” thought iSuppli. The business also considers that the implications of the convergence in user electronics span well beyond tablets: the mobile operating system is also growing in substance and is moving into gadgets that previously did not have a mobile OS, such as set-top boxes and MP3 players.

“Companies in the electronics value chain increasingly must face the reality that the rise of the mobile OS means distinct product categories now are blurring together,” believed William Kidd, director and principal analyst, financial services for iSuppli. “For example, note the similarity both in external functionality and internal electronics between Apple’s tablet, smart phone, MP3 player and set top box product lines,” Kidd added. “Not only do they run the same OS, but all these Apple devices are internally similar, plus or minus a screen and touch interface. Industries likely to face the impact of convergence through the proliferation of mobile OSes include televisions, cell phones and notebook PCs.”

In terms of their impact on the computing market, iSuppli believes the tablet segment could be much superior in 2012 than now expected as the gadgets take on the content creation capabilities now offered by notebook and netbook PCs. However, in its report on the tablets market by 2015, Ovum alleged it does not expect tablets to provide the “computing revolution” that is expected by some. The companionship said it expects the replacement of PCs to remain small in the anticipate period and beyond. According to principal analyst Tony Cripps, the issue that is of bigger importance is the increased use of “lite” OSs that come from the smartphone rather than the PC market.
